Overview

The School of Electrical Engineering was founded in 1960, with its predecessor tracing back to the "Electric Power Drive and Industrial Automation" program at Harbin Institute of Technology. It was one of the earliest three majors at the former Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute. Under the leadership of successive administrators, the School of Electrical Engineering has fostered a pragmatic and enterprising academic atmosphere and a rigorous and practical spirit of scholarship, achieving remarkable results in teaching, research, and other fields.

The School of Electrical Engineering currently consists of three departments: the Department of Automation, the Department of Instrument Science and Engineering, and the Department of Electrical Engineering, as well as one Electronics Experimental Center, three administrative offices including the General Office, the Student Affairs Office, and the Youth League Committee. There are a total of 224 faculty and staff members, including 59 professors, 70 associate professors, 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 national-level talent professors, 3 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 recipients of the National Natural Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, 3 New Century Excellent Talent Plan scholars from the Ministry of Education, and 3 Humboldt scholars from Germany. The student body comprises 4,870 students, including 188 doctoral students, 1,210 master's students, and 3,472 undergraduate students.

The School of Electrical Engineering currently has three postdoctoral research stations in Control Science and Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, and Electrical Engineering, three doctoral degree granting first-level disciplines, three master's degree granting first-level disciplines, three fields authorized to grant Professional Master's Degree in Engineering, and three undergraduate majors. It has one strong discipline in Hebei Province, three key disciplines in Hebei Province, four key laboratories in Hebei Province, one national experimental teaching demonstration center, one national distinctive major, one backbone discipline for national defense, one undergraduate education innovation highland in Hebei Province, one teaching team in Hebei Province, and three teaching demonstration centers in Hebei Province.

Over the past decade (2011-2020), the School of Electrical Engineering has achieved remarkable results in research project approval. A total of 227 national projects were approved, including 143 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, which included 2 projects from the National Distinguished Youth Fund, 10 national key fund projects (including major and instrument projects), 12 national key research and development program projects, and 1 National Excellent Youth Fund project, with a total amount of longitudinal funding of 112.47/137.76 million yuan. A total of 324 provincial-level projects were approved for the Natural Science Foundation, including 182 projects from the Natural Science Foundation of Hebei Province (including 5 projects from the Hebei Province Distinguished Youth Fund, 2 projects from the Hebei Province Excellent Youth Fund, and 11 projects from the Hebei Province Key Fund), with a total amount of longitudinal funding of 29.98/35.36 million yuan.

The college attaches great importance to industry-university-research cooperation and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements with enterprises. It has completed 472 horizontal projects with a total funding amount of RMB 96.80/181.83 million. The college has won multiple awards at the national, provincial, and industry levels. Among them, there is 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 1 first prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award, 1 first prize of the Hebei Provincial Natural Science Award, 3 second prizes of the Hebei Provincial Natural Science Award, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes of the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize of the Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award of Higher Education Institutions (Natural Science), 1 first prize of the Machinery Industry Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Hebei Provincial Youth Science and Technology Award, 1 third prize of the China Instrument and Instrument Society Science and Technology Award (Science and Technology Award), and 1 first prize of the Shanghai Technology Invention Award. The college's contribution to the ESI of Computer Science and Engineering ranks first in the university. In the field of computer science, the college's published papers have been cited 2,448 times with a contribution rate of 58.01%. In the field of engineering, the college's papers have been cited 7,710 times with a contribution rate of 45.89%.

Under the educational concept of cultivating scientific and technological innovation ability of the college and shaping ideological and moral qualities, the students have repeatedly achieved good results in various scientific and technological competitions: 2 second prizes, 1 national third prize, 3 provincial first prizes, 2 provincial second prizes, and 1 provincial third prize; won 1 National Bronze Award, 2 Hebei Special Prizes, 4 First Prizes, and 2 Second Prizes; won 1 National Silver Prize, 3 Bronze Prizes in the China "Internet +" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, 3 gold awards, 8 silver awards, and 7 bronze awards in Hebei Province; in the "NXP" college student smart car competition, won 3 national first prizes, 9 national second prizes, and 2 national third prizes , 13 provincial first prizes and 8 second prizes; in the national electronic design competition, won 3 national first prizes and 4 national second prizes; in the national mathematical modeling competition, won the national first prize 10 first prizes, 21 national second prizes, 49 provincial first prizes, and 99 provincial second prizes. A total of more than 320 awards in other competitions.

The college attaches great importance to academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, and has successfully held many academic conferences. Since 2016, more than 80 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad have been invited to the college to give lectures and engage in cooperative research; more than 100 academic backbones have been sent to foreign famous universities or scientific research units for further study, investigation, and participation in international academic conferences. The college has long-term close cooperative relations with foreign universities such as Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, National University of Singapore, Aalborg University in Denmark, University of Toledo in the United States, Sophia University in Japan, and Newcastle University in the United Kingdom.

The School of Electrical Engineering adheres to the school spirit of "unity, progress, truth-seeking, and innovation", deepens connotation construction, promotes characteristic development, enhances innovation ability, and comprehensively improves the quality of running schools, and must make contributions in personnel training, technological innovation, and social services greater contribution.
